StockStory has identified Lennox (NYSE:LII) as a potential winner within the S&P 500, while recommending investors avoid Skyworks Solutions (NASDAQ:SWKS) and Sysco (NYSE:SYY). The analysis highlights specific operational metrics and valuation ratios to distinguish the climate control firm from the wireless chip designer and food distributor.

Lennox, a Texas-based HVACR company founded over a century ago, carries a market capitalization of $12.1 billion. The firm reported a healthy operating margin of 17.7%, which StockStory attributes to efficient processes and well-run operations. Profits at Lennox increased over the last five years as the company scaled. Additionally, free cash flow margin rose by 8.6 percentage points during that same five-year period, providing the company with more capital to invest or return to shareholders. Management’s return on capital stands at an industry-leading 37.3%, a figure StockStory cites as evidence of skill in identifying high-return investments. At $350.87 per share, Lennox trades at a forward P/E of 14.5x.

In contrast, StockStory advises steering clear of Skyworks Solutions, which has a market cap of $11.52 billion. Formed from the merger of Alpha Industries and Conexant’s wireless communications division, Skyworks designs chips for smartphones, autos, and industrial applications. The analysis points to significant end-market challenges facing the company’s products during the current cycle. Sales have declined by 4.2% annually over the last two years, with projections indicating flat sales over the next 12 months, implying weak demand. Operating profits fell over the last five years due to dropping sales and struggles to adjust fixed costs. Skyworks stock is priced at $76.31, representing a valuation ratio of 13.9x forward P/E.

Sysco, a global food distributor with a market cap of $38.88 billion, is also flagged for avoidance. The company supplies food products to more than 730,000 commercial kitchens across North America and Europe, including restaurants, healthcare facilities, schools, and hotels. StockStory notes that average unit sales growth has been 0.9% over the past two years, reflecting steady demand. However, free cash flow margin is projected to show no improvement next year. Furthermore, diminishing returns on capital from an already low starting point suggest that management’s prior and current bets are not going as planned. Sysco trades at $78.13 per share, or 15.5x forward P/E.

StockStory promotes its AI-driven screening tools, noting that top growth stocks often share rapid revenue growth. The firm cites Meta, CrowdStrike, and Broadcom as examples of companies flagged by its AI that returned 315%, 314%, and 455%, respectively. It also references Nvidia and Comfort Systems as past list inclusions from 2020 that saw gains of 1,460% and 1,154%, respectively, between June 2020 and June 2025.
