Franklin Graham has described a moment of estrangement with his late father, Billy Graham, recalling that he failed to recognize the world-renowned evangelist after a six-month absence. In an interview on Sean Hannity's podcast, "Hang Out with Sean Hannity," Graham shared a memory attributed to his mother, in which he asked, "Mama, who's that strange man in the bed with you?" upon his father's return from Australia.
The trip occurred before jet aircraft were commonplace, requiring multiple stops that extended the journey significantly. Graham noted that the route included lengthy layovers in Hawaii and Fiji before reaching destinations such as Sydney or Melbourne. He explained that his father spent considerable time in Australia during these extended periods, which kept him away from home for months at a time.
Graham stated that the incident "hurt" his father, whose evangelistic endeavors remained a central part of his life's work. Billy Graham spent decades traveling the globe to preach, becoming one of the most influential figures of the 20th century through his crusades, television broadcasts, and other outreach efforts.
Today, Franklin Graham continues this legacy as president and CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. He teaches the message of God's word around the world and serves as a prominent voice on matters of the Christian faith. The conversation with Hannity also covered Graham's faith in Christ and the influence of the family ministry.
