President Donald J. Trump stated on Truth Social that the execution of former U.S. Army major Nidal Malik Hasan will proceed by firing squad as scheduled, but it will not be broadcast via livestream. Trump, who described Hasan as a traitor, a bad and evil man, and scum, explained that while streaming the execution could have served as a strong deterrent to show how the United States deals with terrorists, he recognized that many people would prefer not to watch.
The post detailed the 2009 Fort Hood shooting, noting that Hasan killed 13 people, including a pregnant soldier and her unborn son, and seriously injured 32 others. Trump referenced the Obama administration's handling of the case, stating that the FBI intercepted electronic communications between Hasan and Anwar al-Awlaki, a radical Yemeni-American cleric. According to Trump, the FBI terrorism task force reviewed these emails and concluded they were not a threat, an assessment he identified as a key intelligence failure.
Despite his initial suggestion that a public broadcast might be effective, Trump decided against streaming the event. He indicated that victims' immediate family members may choose to view the execution in person, asserting that they deserve to witness justice.
