Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent posted on X that the United States is urging European nations to quickly release diesel supplies. "American farmers, truckers, and businesses should not be left carrying the burden of a global diesel shortage," Bessent wrote. Multiple media outlets reported that President Donald Trump continues to consider banning diesel exports to help manage elevated energy prices.
Oil markets reflected this uncertainty, with front-month North Sea Brent crude falling 2.5% to $99.79 per barrel. US West Texas Intermediate crude dropped 3.9% to $89.27 per barrel.
The September unemployment rate is scheduled for release at 8:30 am ET, with estimates compiled by Bloomberg expecting the figure to hold steady at 4.1%. August factory orders, due at 10 am ET, are projected to have increased by 0.2%, following a prior gain of 0.9%. Federal Reserve Dallas President Lorie Logan is also slated to speak on Friday.
