US equity futures traded lower ahead of the Wednesday bell as market participants awaited the release of minutes from the Federal Reserve's September policy meeting. Dow Jones Industrial Average futures declined by 0.8%, S&P 500 futures fell 0.4%, and Nasdaq futures dropped 0.8%. The central bank's minutes from its Sept. 16-17 session are scheduled for release at 2 pm ET, a document that records the unanimous 12-0 vote to lift interest rates and offers insight into the committee's broader economic reasoning.

Geopolitical tensions in the Middle East added to market caution. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Iran has missed "multiple" opportunities to reach a deal on its nuclear program, according to CNBC. The network reported that despite a recent increase in crude exports through the Strait of Hormuz, Iran has escalated attacks on vessels in the waterway, with nearly 20 ships targeted over the past month.

Oil prices rose in response to the geopolitical developments. Front-month North Sea Brent crude climbed 1.1% to $101.70 per barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate crude increased 0.8% to $90.13 per barrel. Traders also prepared for the August consumer credit report, which is set to be released at 3 pm ET.

Global equities reflected a mixed but predominantly weak tone. Japan's Nikkei closed 0.9% lower, and Hong Kong's Hang Seng index ended 0.6% lower. China's Shanghai Composite was closed for a public holiday. In Europe, the UK's FTSE 100 was down 0.5% and Germany's DAX index fell 1.2% during the early afternoon session.

Corporate earnings and news drove specific stock movements in the US market. Constellation Brands (STZ) reported higher adjusted earnings and net sales for fiscal Q2 late Tuesday, yet its shares fell 2.1%. Micron Technology (MU) shares declined 2.5% following a Reuters report that workers' union members at its Taoyuan operations in Taiwan authorized a strike over the company's bonus scheme. HSBC (HSBC) stock dropped 3.8% after a Financial Times report indicated the bank is considering significant job cuts in its UK wealth management business to advance AI-powered services.

Venture Global (VG) shares rose 1.2% on reports from Bloomberg that the company is in early-stage discussions with at least three Chinese buyers, including PetroChina, regarding liquefied natural gas supply from its Louisiana export facilities.
