Energize Lab has stated it is hiring an independent security firm following a report by The Verge that identified significant security flaws in its Eiliko robot toy. The company made this announcement after a period of silence. It did not respond to inquiries from The Verge or security researcher Sammy Azdoufal.
The Verge and Azdoufal spent more than a month attempting to contact Energize Lab. They sent emails to Shaw Yeung, the CEO and founder of the company. During their investigation, they found that hackers could easily read complete transcripts of conversations held with the Eiliko robot. This happened despite the device telling owners that their secrets were safe with it.
Energize Lab's response finally broke its silence. The company acknowledged the core issues identified in the report. It confirmed these problems and is taking steps to address them by engaging an external security firm. The Verge described the company's response as leaving something to be desired.
